Labour’s First 100 Days: A New Beginning for Britain

Labour’s first 100 days in power have been marked by decisive action, clear leadership, and the beginning of the transformative changes that Sir Keir Starmer promised in the election campaign. Winning 411 seats in a landslide victory, Labour has wasted no time in addressing the urgent challenges facing the country and laying the foundations for a fairer, stronger Britain.

1. Scrapping the Rwanda Deportation Plan
In one of its first major acts, the Labour government fulfilled its promise to scrap the controversial Rwanda deportation plan. This move signalled a return to compassion and justice in immigration policy, as Labour focuses on upholding human rights and international law, while also exploring further improvements to the asylum system.

2. The King’s Speech: 40 New Bills for Change
On July 17, Labour delivered a bold and ambitious agenda through the King’s Speech, outlining 40 new bills aimed at transforming the country. These include reforms to the House of Lords and further devolution in England, representing Labour’s commitment to modernising our political system and empowering local communities. This legislative programme sets the stage for delivering the meaningful change that millions of voters called for.

3. Launch of Great British Energy
Tackling climate change is a top priority for Labour, and the launch of Great British Energy is a clear step towards a greener future. This new publicly-owned energy company will lead the way in driving the UK’s transition to renewable energy, creating thousands of green jobs and ensuring that the UK takes its place as a global leader in the fight against climate change.

4. Protecting Workers’ Rights
Within the first 100 days, Labour delivered on its pre-election pledge to introduce a comprehensive workers' rights bill. This legislation strengthens rights in the workplace, ensuring fair treatment, better pay, and improved working conditions for millions of people across the UK. Labour is committed to building an economy where workers are valued and rewarded fairly.

5. Combating Far-Right Extremism
In response to violent far-right riots, Labour worked with anti-racism campaigners and local communities to successfully de-escalate tensions. The government’s swift and decisive action helped prevent further unrest and reinforced Labour’s commitment to standing up against extremism, racism, and division.

6. Establishing the Council of Nations and Regions
Labour’s commitment to devolution took shape with the creation of the new "Council of Nations and Regions," designed to give a stronger voice to local leaders and communities. This initiative aims to ensure that every region of the UK has a direct say in decisions that affect their future, empowering local authorities and promoting more equitable development across the country.

Labour’s first 100 days in government have laid the groundwork for lasting change. With clear priorities on climate action, workers’ rights, and political reform, Sir Keir Starmer’s government is delivering on its promises to rebuild Britain for the better. These early achievements are just the beginning of a new chapter for the country, as Labour continues its work to create a fairer, greener, and more prosperous future for everyone.

Campaign Day in Bury St Edmunds: Connecting with the Community

On Saturday, 12th October 2024, our Labour team spent the afternoon in Bury St Edmunds, engaging with local residents and discussing the issues that matter most to them. Volunteers spoke with people in the town centre, listening to their concerns and sharing Labour’s plans to improve the community. Afterward, our team posted leaflets to ensure that everyone had the chance to learn more about Labour’s vision for a fairer, stronger future.

Thank you to everyone who participated in the day’s efforts. It’s through these meaningful conversations and outreach that we can truly connect with our community and work together for positive change.
