Peter Armitage

Treasurer

Biography

Peter is Treasurer for the Constituency Labour Party, and a Councillor for Bury St Edmunds Town Council (sitting on the Planning and Finance Committee); and West Suffolk Council (Chairing the Performance and Audit Committee).

Peter started his working life as a trainee Civil Engineer in Local Government; gaining Chartered status in 1982. He moved to various Consultants designing roads and bridges before moving into project and programme management.

The latter part of his career involved leading public transport planning teams for cities including Dublin, London, Manchester, Manila, Addis Ababa, Al Ain, Chittagong and Karachi.

Peter is a keen birdwatcher—not a twitcher! He also loves music, particularly jazz. Time for these interests is limited by the need to attend to five grandsons (from two sons and a daughter).

Peter also enjoys reading and remembers the famous lines from Trollope's *The Way We Live Now* (Chapter 55): "Suffolk is irrecoverably Conservative; not any more!"
